Boviseal Top Tips

Before drying off

  • Dry off cows as soon as their production reaches approximately 9 litres
  • Cease milking cows producing 12 litres or less at drying off date
  • If milk yield >12L per day at drying off talk to your vet or advisor about reducing feed intake for 1 week prior to drying off
  • Do not restrict water access

When drying off

  • Stop milking abruptly and do not milk cows once a day before dry off
  • DO NOT put tubes in bucket of water
  • USE ONE TUBE per quarter

A) If using dry cow antibiotics and Boviseal;

  1. Ensure excellent teat preparation and disinfection before infusing into the teat canal
  2. Infuse the dry cow tube
  3. Massage the dry cow tube up into the udder
  4. If the teat looks in any way dirty, disinfect the teat again
  5. Pinch the top of each teat before gently infusing Boviseal in the teat canal.
  6. Do not massage the udder after boviseal insertion
  7. Many farmers find it easier to carry out this procedure on the two furthest teats first and then the two nearest teats. This avoids accidental transfer of contamination onto disinfected teats
  8. Always Post dip the cow

B) If, on carefully selected, low-cell count cows, not using antibiotics:

  1. Ensure excellent teat preparation and disinfection before infusing into the teat canal
  2. Pinch the top of each teat before gently infusing Boviseal in the teat canal.
  3. Do not massage the udder after boviseal insertion
  4. Many farmers find it easier to carry out this procedure on the two furthest teats first and then the two nearest teats. This avoids accidental transfer of contamination onto disinfected teats
  5. Always Post dip the cow
